| Q |
What is ActiveCheckout? |
| A |
ActiveCheckout is a small software application, know as an applet, which you can use to make your online shopping faster and safer. It stores your personal details securely on your computer, by encrypting them, and uses them to automatically fill forms to make online purchasing easier. It is estimated that ActiveCheckout reduces the time required to make an online purchase by up to four minutes. ActiveCheckout also has the advantage of being able to provide authenticated payments to meet the requirements of new payment authentication standards (see also: What is MasterCard SecureCode? and What is Verified by Visa®?).
With ActiveCheckout you can:
- Store multiple user profiles, with a nominated default. For example you can store your home address, work address, different delivery contacts etc.
- Store multiple credit cards, with a nominated default
- Use Intelligent form filling, which works fully on all ECML compliant websites and has an accuracy of over 90% with websites that are not ECML compliant
- Automatically detect and fill out online forms and payment pages or fill them out only when you request it
- Download different character animations to brighten your desktop
- Set it to run automatically every time you run your computer
- Use password authentication
- Use it for form-filling only, until your credit card issuing bank introduces support for the new authentication standards
|
| Q |
What is authentication? |
| A |
Authentication during an online credit card purchase is the verification of a credit card owner to the merchant.
If the cardholder is physically present when a transaction is made, authentication is achieved by manually checking the cardholder's signature at the point of sale.
Visa and MasterCard have introduced standards for authenticating online payments. These standards are known as Verified by Visa and MasterCard Secure, respectively. Your card-issuing bank will inform you as they introduce support for these standards and you will need to register with your bank, generally using an online process, so that you can make authenticated payments (see also: What is MasterCard SecureCode? and What is Verified by Visa®?).
|
| Q |
What are the system requirements for installing ActiveCheckout? |
| A |
Your computer should meet the following requirements before you install ActiveCheckout:
Pentium 90MHz processor or faster
16 MB RAM or more
1MB available hard-disk space needed to install
Microsoft Windows® 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000, or XP

| Q |
What is MasterCard SecureCode? |
| A |
MasterCard SecureCode is the authentication standard for online transactions introduced by MasterCard, which uses the Secure Payment Application (SPA) standard.
When you register a MasterCard credit card for MasterCard SecureCode you will download a small software application (called an applet), such as ActiveCheckout and create a MasterCard SecureCode.
When you shop with ActiveCheckout at a MasterCard SecureCode enabled online store you will be required to enter your MasterCard SecureCode to authenticate yourself. This means that only you can use your MasterCard credit card to shop online.
|
| Q |
What is 3-D Secure? |
| A |
3-D Secure is the system used to support the Verified by Visa authentication standard (see also: What is Verified by Visa®?). |
| Q |
What is Verified by Visa®? |
| A |
Verified by Visa is the authentication standard for online transactions introduced by Visa, which uses a system called 3-D Secure.
When you enrol for Verified by Visa you create a password for the Visa card you are enrolling. When you shop at Verified by Visa online stores, you enter this password in the same way you would enter your PIN number at an ATM. This means that only you can use your Visa Card to shop online.
